Joy Mathes

With her flair for making the mundane exquisite while maintaining a sense of humor, award-winning artist, Joy Mathes takes paint, pencil and that bit of magic to board (and even found objects on occasion) to create artwork that is simply wonderful. She has an uncanny ability to free the inner-being in something that looks like the most ordinary stick or piece of wood.

Her eclectic art works range from paintings to exquisite woodcarvings and her incomparable industrial “rust panels” that no amount of description can do justice. These must be seen to understand and appreciate.

Joy has lived in the Atlanta Area since 1976. She has a degree in Visual Communications from the Art Institute of Atlanta and for the past 25 years has specialized in advertising, design and art direction of print campaigns for a wide variety of companies in the southeast and New York. She has two cats, Abby Normal and Suzie Pie.
